AVI-SPL, Borabora studios and PIXERA redefine The Lost World Aquarium at Atlantis – The Palm in Dubai

The newly opened Lost World Aquarium at Atlantis – The Palm, Dubai, sets a new benchmark for immersive visitor experiences.

For the complete digital, visual, and acoustic experience design, the creative team at borabora studios worked closely with AVI-SPL to develop a multisensory environment that combines mythological storytelling, scientific content, and real marine life.

17 PIXERA media servers were used to realize the extensive immersive media infrastructure. Serving as the technological backbone of the installation, they ensure seamless, reliable, and high performance content distribution across 14 interactive rooms covering more than 4,000 m². The installation features large scale projections, real time character animation, and fully integrated architectural show elements. In the main showroom alone, 25 projectors are precisely mapped and orchestrated via PIXERA to create a fully dynamic, immersive environment.

Key PIXERA functionalities within the project

  • Centralized and scalable media server system powering all projection and media surfaces
  • Frame accurate synchronization for large format multiscreen setups
  • Stable processing of real time and pre rendered content for storytelling, projection mapping shows, and interactive installations
  • Efficient distribution of ultra high resolution media across dozens of endpoints in a complex, multi layered AV setup

AVI-SPL commissioned three projection mapping shows specially developed by borabora studios, which transform the architecture of the building into a central part of the narrative. The PIXERA platform enables precise spatial mapping, seamless transitions, and long term operational stability—key requirements for high traffic attractions operating daily.

The projection mapped environments are complemented by digital characters such as Poseidon and his guardians, who interact in real time within the audience. Their integration into the immersive environment is supported by the reliable rendering pipeline of the PIXERA system.

Visitors begin their journey through a spectacular LED tunnel that leads directly from the hotel into the experience. From there, digital characters guide them through various themed rooms. Additionally, 28 interactive touchscreens provide additional information about marine life and enable visitors to delve deeper into biological and ecological topics.

With its robust, scalable, and high performance media server architecture, PIXERA plays a central role in implementing one of the most technologically complex aquarium experiences in the world. Its seamless integration into a visually and dramatically sophisticated environment positions the Lost World Aquarium as a flagship example of modern immersive storytelling—and highlights PIXERA’s capabilities within the international attractions and experience market.

Thanks to AVI SPL and borabora studios for integrating PIXERA into this remarkable project.
